Charlie and the Rabbit among the 70 short films chosen for Sundance

Two California State grads beat out more than 6,000 applicants to win an entry in the short film category at Sundance this January.

Their film "Charlie and the Rabbit" chronicles the story of a boy obsessed with Bugs Bunny's plight to go out and hunt a rabbit. With little dialogue - and no music, the film focuses instead on sounds like the boys breathing.

This marks just one entry of what has become an increasingly experimental and obscure forum for amateur filmmakers.

The aim of most filmmakers is to gain publicity and name-recognition in the smaller fields. Many great films tipping points occured at Sundance - including Little Miss Sunshine a few years back.

Moving forward, "The duo plan on putting up a short film each week and a documentary series called "American Nobodies" which is about people from Monterey County."
